Task 3 – Planning a setting description
For this task, I would like you to look at the picture below of a Greek landscape and create a mind map of everything you can see and how you would describe it using lots of rich vocabulary. This mind map will help you write a setting description for your next task. Imagine you were there by jumping into the picture and think about what you can see, hear, smell and taste.
Task 4 – Writing a setting description
To follow on from Task 3, I would like you to now write a setting description for this Greek Landscape. Refer back to the Mind map you created and include lots of lovely words and phrases. Think about how you are going to start your sentences so that they don’t all start the same way as well as making sure you try and include some of the different writing techniques we have taught you so far. I have attached a writing frame for you.

Task 1 – Writing a story
Before Christmas, we completed the book “The Iron Man” by Ted Hughes. You will be very familiar with both the characters and the plot of the story. I would like you to imagine that Ted Hughes has asked you to writing a sequel to this book.
Have a think about what the threat the Iron Man might have to face this time and whether he is able to come to the rescue. It may be that the world is being invaded by another creature or you may decide that the Iron Man could turn into a villain himself. I have attached a planning sheet for you to write some ideas down first before you begin writing it. Take your time and make sure you don’t rush straight into the problem of your story without first introducing and describing your character.
