Science Week
13th March 2019
Year 2 and Year 5 worked together to take part in a Science afternoon. The classes were split and in each class the children were given the opportunity to try five very different experiments. After play the children changed classrooms. Everyone had fun and it was lovely working together!

Germs
31st January 2019
We tried a scientific experiment today to see how thoroughly we clean our hands. Three children took part, they all coated their hands in baby oil and then dipped them in flour. One child had a bowl of cold water in front of them to clean their hands. The second child had a bowl of warm water and the third child had a bowl of warm soapy water.
We made predictions to say which bowl of water would clean hands better.

30th January 2019
We watched a video about germs and how easily they spread. One person in each group placed their hands under water and then covered their hands in glitter. After doing this we completed a number of everyday tasks including shaking each others hands, writing and collecting equipment. The glitter went everywhere demonstrating how easily germs spread.

Healthy Bodies
30th January 2019
The children have talked about the importance of sleep and how we feel if we don’t get enough rest. Children require more sleep than adults and the class were all asked what time they went to bed at night.
A timeline was placed on the yard and the children were asked to stand behind the time that they go to bed at night.

Healthy Exercise
29th January 2019
Today we mixed our PE lesson with our Science lesson. We thought about how we felt sat on the bench not doing anything. “I feel relaxed”, “I feel calm” and discussed how exercise can keep us healthy as well as eating a balanced diet and sleeping for 8 hours a night. Then, we took part in some different exercises to feel the different changes in our body. “I feel hot, I feel tired, I feel sweaty”. We discussed that these feelings are what happens after exercise but that it is how it keeps us healthy. We had lots of fun!

Amazing Animal Facts
23rd January 2019
Today in Science we compared three different types of animals – pets, farm animals and wild animals. Firstly we named as many different animals we could think of in each category and then we started to think about how these animals survive. Do they have to do everything for themselves or do they rely on humans for their needs and survival? As a group we worked together to create a poster comparing the different needs of the animals and how they get those needs. Finally we presented these to the class.

Material Presentation
26/09/18 – 27/09/18
Over the course of these two days we prepared a presentation for the rest of the class with our partner. We chose a material (glass, wood, plastic or metal) and created a poster. When we presented this to the rest of the class we talked about the different uses of this material, what its properties were and why these properties made it a good material for different purposes.
What is our school made of?
12/09/18
Our topic this term is materials and we have been finding out what different types there are. We went outside to look at the school building and see what materials it is made from.
