Children from Year 6 spent the afternoon with Mrs Gill coming up with ideas on how they could improve lunchtimes at our school. Once ideas were gathered the children discussed which ideas they thought were going to be the most beneficial for the school and most practical to complete. They decided that their best idea would be to allow the children to use the field at lunchtime, whether it was sunny or not. The only way to achieve this would be to ensure all children, who wanted to use the field, had appropriate footwear. This meant wellies would need to be brought in. Will this idea came a few challenges that needed to be solved first such as storage for the wellies and how it would be managed. They came up with an action plan so that it would work and approached the relevant people who would be involved in helping.
The class also decided they would like to do their leadership role every lunch time instead of just once a week. A rota was written up and children came up with ideas on what games/activities they could do for the younger children.
A month into the project and everything is running smoothly. The use of the field results in more room to play which the children are very happy about. The leadership sessions are going down well with the younger children and the leaders themselves are doing a great job at providing lunchtime activities.
Well done Year 6!
