Arts Award Presentation
Article 29 – Education must develop every child’s personality, talents
and abilities to the full.
Our Arts Award project is coming to an end now and we were incredibly proud to exhibit our work at Auckland Tower. It was fantastic sharing the process we had been through with our parents.
We were also able to access the tower on our visit to take in the view!
Back at school , we completed our log books ready for moderation. We should find out towards the end of May if we have all achieved the ‘Explore’ level of the award!
Mining art Gallery – Boot polish painting and printing
Article 29– Every child has the right to develop their talents
As part of the Arts Award project we got to visit the Mining Art Gallery in Bishop Auckland. We were split into two groups to explore the gallery with its many mining inspired pieces of art. We compared the work of a number of artists including the work of Norman Cornish and Tom McGuinness.
We also took part in two workshops. The first was painting mining artefacts using boot polish as some of the miners might have used and secondly we took part in a printing workshop that involved designing an image and etching it onto a piece of plastic before using a printing press to take a print.
Beamish – Victorian photography and Norman Cornish drawing
Article 29– Every child has the right to develop their talents
Beamish was an excellent venue for our photography workshop and our figure drawings based on Norman Cornish. It was quite a snowy start but the sun soon came out! We had a great time getting dressed in period costume and taking photographs around the town. We also tried to sketch and draw figures in the style of Norman Cornish.
Arts Award
Article 29– Every child has the right to develop their talents
We are taking part in an Arts Award that aims to help us get creative, to explore and enjoy art. We are aiming to achieve the Explore level of this award. This Explore project has been inspired by two famous North East artists, who painted scenes of mining communities and who feature in Beamish Museum and The Auckland Project’s Mining Art Gallery – Norman Cornish and Tom McGuinness.
We will be visiting these organisations, to explore the work of the artists and to create our own fantastic artwork!
Simon Wooley works for Beamish and he came to introduce the overall project and the award that we will be working towards. We learned a little more about Norman Cornish and sketched some objects that he had brought from Beamish Museum. It was very informative and a lot of fun!
We got to meet Norman Cornish’s son John and his wife Dorothy who introduced Norman Cornish and his works to us.
Daisy Arts
Article 29– Every child has the right to develop their talents
As part of the Bishop Auckland Tower construction we were asked to take part in an arts project with Daisy Arts. Every child in the class helped to create this masterpiece! Most children just used their fingers! The final piece is stunning!
