Red Nose Day

Today it was Red Nose Day. We came to school wearing red and did a range of different red nose activities which included writing our own jokes, playing red nose bingo, designing our own red noses and learning a Red Nose Day with Ashleigh.

Fairtrade Fortnight

Today for Fairtrade fortnight we watched a video about the importance of buying fair trade products and the impact that this has on families. We spoke about the rights of the farmers and by buying fair trade products children from less developed countries could have their rights met. We then did a range of activities which included writing a fair trade acrostic poem, making fair trade corn flake cakes, colouring pictures, doing fair trade word search and maths problems.
Article 1 – Everyone under the age of 18 has these rights.
Internet Safety Day

Today we have been finding out how to stay safe on-line. We have watched a video from the Smart Crew which told us lots of information and we talked as a class about how to stay safe.
Article 17: You have the right to get information that is important to your well-being.

Spot the rights

This afternoon we looked at the UN Convention Rights of a Child. We then worked in groups to spot the rights within the pictures. After that we discussed the different rights that we could see and the ways that these rights were being met.
Article 1: Until you are eighteen, you are considered a child and have all the rights in the convention.
Children in Need

We helped raise money for Children in Need by bringing in loose change and placing it on a picture of Pudsey Bear. We then took part in some fun activities to do with Children in Need.

Getting On and Falling Out
October 2018
This theme focuses on developing children’s knowledge, understanding and skills in three key social and emotional aspects of learning: empathy, managing feelings (with a focus on anger) and social skills.
We talked about what makes us angry and the strategies we can use to calm ourselves down. In class we have used the Relax Kids programme, this uses relaxation exercises and techniques that help children feel better about themselves and prepare them for learning in the classroom.
